There are short and long term radon tests. A short term test is defined as a duration from two (2) to ninety (90) days. During a short term test for twelve hours before the test and during the test the windows remain closed. The exterior door are only opened for momentary entry and exit During a short term test the swamp cooler if present cannot be running. The heating and central air conditioner are run with the fan in automatic mode. The a fore mentioned conditions are referred to as closed house conditions.
A long term test is a duration of ninety-one (91) days or more. During a long term test the house is lived in under normal conditions. We do long term tests for a fee of $200 and using side by side alpha track canisters.
The RSSI alpha tracks can be used for short term test ranging in duration from two weeks to three months. This test device is shown on the left.
A short term test kit can be purchased from the State of Utah EPA website for under $10. The price includes the laboratory processing fee. The radon test kits sold at Lowes include the laboratory testing fee. Home Depot radon kits have an additional $20 processing fee.
