Radon Mitigation

What is the final radon level that will be achieved? Below are our statistics and they speak for themselves.

Less Than
1.0 pCi/L

Between
1.0 and 1.9 pCi/L

Between
2 and 3.9 pCi/L

65%

15%

20%

We always get the long term average below 4 pCi/L.

The most cost effective solution is a slab fan system.
The technical term is a sub-slab depressurization system.

First a hole is bored in the concrete floor. Next about 20 gallons of dirt are removed to create a radon collector pit. Then four inch PVC plastic piping is sealed to the hole. Last suction fan is installed. The fan consumes the energy of eighty watt light bulb. The radon gas discharge needs to be at least ten feet above the ground.
   a) up through the roof, or on the side of the house
   b) above the eave of the roof
   c) at least ten feet horizontally or two feet above the windows.

The cost of mitigation ranges from $1,300 to $2,500. The price varies based upon:

  • Whether this is an interior or exterior installation.
  • Do you have us do finish work to box-in the exhaust pipe that runs through a closet?
  • Do we have to caulk an unfinished basement floor and perimeter cracks?

The cost to install a radon mitigation system in a house with a crawl space starts at $2,300.

We do not take any short cuts. We take pride and do the little extras to make the system blend into the house.
When the exhaust pipe is installed up through the roof, our “jack-flashings” are installed the way a licensed roofing contractor would do the work. We weave the flashing into the shingles. A properly installed roof flashing does not require roof cement. Poorly installed roof flashings use roof cement to cover up poor workmanship. Knock on wood, to date we have not had to go back to a house to repair a leaking roof flashing.
